The American Cocker Spaniel

The Cocker Spaniel, also known as the American Cocker Spaniel, originated from cautious reproduction of the English Cocker Spaniels in the United States.

The name "Cocker" comes from the game bird named woodcock. These spaniels were used to flush these game birds which they did particularly well. Recently these Cocker Spaniels are mostly found in dog shows and as family pets. They also serve admirably as retrievers, hunters, and agility and tracking dog athletes. They have above average intelligence in the dog world. Cocker Spaniels are an all around great dog with a happy and loyal demeanor. Socialization at an early is a positive thing as they tend to be a little shy if they are not socialized. Like many dogs they pick up the emotions of their humans and strangely enough are not all that fond of grumpy people. They do have a high energy level so if you are not prepared to active with your dog this might not be the breed for. They respond well to various types of training and are generally good with children.

Temperament

Bold and keen to work. The American Cocker Spaniel is equally suited to both as a gundog or as a household pet. They are cheerful, sweet, and sensitive in nature. There is a Cocker Spaniel named Buddy that goes to our dog park and he is just the happiest little dog and he does not have a mean bone in his body. There is not a single moment at the park that his tail is not going a mile a minute. Cocker Spaniels respond to training and are eager to please their master.

Adequate daily exercise is important as they have a lot of stamina. A walk in the morning and the evening is adequate and you can mix it up with a trip to the dog park for a game of fetch. The Companion, American Eskimo Dog

This is a breed originating from Germany despite its name. It is not a Husky and it is not from Alaska either. The American Eskimo Dog was originally named German Spitz but the name was changed during the first World War because of anti-German prejudice.

The American Eskimo Dog has been bred with the only intention to be kept as a companion pet and they thrive as being part of the family. They love being lavished with attention and they go great with children of all ages. Even if they are quite small, they make good guardians of their home, since they like to bark and they will whenever the situation demands it. They are very suspicious and wary of strangers. The only draw back they might have is the destructive activities they will engage in if they are left alone for longer periods of time.

When it comes to the care they require, they will need firm bristle brushing twice a week to keep tangles and mats from occurring and if they are shedding daily brushing may be necessary. Because of their dry skin, bathing should be done only if absolutely necessary.

This is a breed famous for its longevity, with individuals known to have reached the 20 years mark and with an average life span between 12 and 14 years. Daily regular exercise is a must for the American eskimo dog. They also enjoy playing in an enclosed yard or the walks, even on a secure leash. American Mastiff

The American Mastiff makes a wonderful family pet. As a rule these giant dogs are not aggressive unless their family is being threatened. They make very protective pets particularly around children but it does help if the kids and the puppies are reared together.

This breed resulted when breeders crossed the English Mastiff with the Anatolian Mastiff. The result was a large dog which is less likely to drool than its ancestors. The puppies grow into very large dogs so should only be bought by those who have strong leadership qualities. You cannot let this animal think he is the pack leader or he will become impossible to control. Although kind and gentle, he is also prone to being stubborn and domineering. There is a difference between how the American and Japanese Akita's are built and the way they look. The most noticeable difference between the American and Japanese Akitas of today is in the shapes of their heads. The American Akita is larger-boned with a large triangular head and small eyes resembling the look of a bear.

The Japanese Akita's head on the other hand, has almond eyes with ears that are set lower and more forward and this Akita resembles the head of an over-sized fox.

Color.

The Japanese Akita's colors are limited to brindle, white, and red with white markings.

The American Akita can be many different colors; often the undercoat has a different
color than the upper coat. However, they have mostly black masks.

Your Choice

American Bulldog Training - Picky Eaters

Your American bulldog can become fussy eaters just like you. Sometimes they will hold out until they get what they like. This can leave them less than 100% for training.

Dogs have taste buds just like people do. They like certain foods better than others. Do not worry though, as your pet will not go as far as starving himself. He will eat eventually but reluctantly. Not even the most stubborn dog will pass a meal.

Give your dog a well-balanced meal everyday. Make sure you use the same ingredients so it tastes the same. Chances are he will get used to this same taste. Also, do not over feed him with dog treats. Think of these as junk food.

Do not force your dog to eat. Put the food away until he is ready to eat. When he does go hungry, he will approach and let you know. If each meal tastes the same, he will not be expecting anything else and will eat it right away.

Avoid feeding him "people food" as much as you can. Make sure that he does not steal food from the counter either. He may look for the taste which is not the same as dog food and make him a picky eater.

If this keeps going, you might want to consider that something is wrong with your dog. A quick visit to your local veterinarian should help put your mind at ease.
